1st Day of School

9.07.10 By Aira Jackson-Sams

Tomorrow is the first day of school, tomorrow is the first day of school!!!  As exciting as it is for our students and families, the first day of school is equally exciting and and a little scary for the teachers and staff.  We have spent the past week or two preparing our classrooms, i.e looking for a table that was definitely in our classroom last June (but has mysteriously disappeared), purchasing supplies (folders, crayons, bulletion board decorations), touching base with colleagues about what we have planned for the year, and meeting with our principals to make sure that we are still well-liked.
It is chaotic time, but also a very special time when we are the only people in the building and the school is ours for a just a little while…because we are all planning and working toward the day when the doors will open and 300+ students will walk through our/their school doors with their families and expect the very best education we can provide - which includes the highest expectations that all students can achieve and make progress. So in the words of our 44th President, “The road ahead will be long.  Our climb will be steep.  We may not get there in one year… I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there.”
