David Jones

David Jones was born in Omaha, Nebraska but spent his childhood in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas where he earned a B.A. in Political Science in May of 2010. During his tenure at KU, he completed three related internships, the first in Washington D.C. under Representative Dennis Moore, the second with the Kansas Democratic Party as a regional coordinator, and the last as a constituent service assistant under Governor Mark Parkinson. Prior to joining the 9th cohort of BTR, David participated in City Year* where he devoted a year of service with 9th grade students at the Jeremiah Burke High School Dorchester, where he was inspired by the performance, passion, and dedication of the BTR graduates and coaches alongside whom he worked.

Inspiration to teach:
What most inspired me to teach was my experience tutoring in two divergent classroom settings. In one setting, high expectations were set and met daily by the instructor. However, the other represented the injustice in education; a teacher who was not fully invested in each student’s success. Frustrated by this reality, I daydreamed of the things I would do differently if I were standing in the front of that classroom. Ultimately, I realized that it was my responsibility to be the change I wished to see.
About BTR:
I think of BTR as an “opportunity maker.” For me, it creates an opportunity to critically examine the world as it is, while providing a vision of how it can be. For residents past and present, it creates an opportunity to unite a community of educators dedicated to becoming life long learners. For the City of Boston, it creates an opportunity to change our approach to how we think about preparing students for success.
