Stephen Yang

Stephen is a first year graduate of the program and teaches English Language Arts at the Washington Irving Middle School. He completed his residency at Charlestown High School. Prior to joining BTR, Stephen worked with at-risk youth in South Boston and Manila, Philippines. He also taught and conducted nonviolence and reconciliation trainings in his native state of Rhode Island. His experiences at home and abroad led him to realize that economic status and ethnicity do not predetermine a student’s capacity for success.
As a firm believer in public education, Stephen seeks to prepare all young people to be literate, college and industry ready, community leaders.
Inspiration to teach:
Young people. Seeing them inspired is inspiring. We aren’t preparing workers, we’re preparing leaders. Teaching is a vocation of humanity.
About BTR:
This program and its staff keeps your head above water, plugs you into a strong support network, and makes sure you’re prepared for the classroom.
Favorite Thing in the World To Do:
Develop relationships.
