Rafael Hernandez K-8 School

The Hernandez serves 394 students in kindergarten through grade 8; 12% of its students receive special education services and more than 26% are English Language Learners.

A bilingual school in which all students learn in both Spanish and English, the Hernandez focuses on project-based, hands-on learning to engage students in its core curricular themes. This year, the Hernandez is a pilot ESL school for BTR, with ten dual-certified Teacher Residents and mentors working to deepen students’ content knowledge and literacy skills in a bilingual setting. A collaborative teaching and learning community within the school promotes an extensive focus on student assessment and instructional response.
